Rugby Canada provides update on HSBC Canada Sevens Edmonton (September 20, 2021)

September 20, 2021 (Edmonton, AB) – After discussions with Alberta Health Services and tournament stakeholders, Rugby Canada is pleased to confirm the 2021 HSBC Canada Sevens Edmonton will move forward under the Restriction Exemption Program. In accordance with this program, discretionary businesses and events must make changes in order to comply with new restrictions. To ensure a commitment to the health and safety of all involved with the event, Rugby Canada has elected to implement enhanced changes for fan attendance.

All event attendees aged 12 and over must show proof of vaccination in order to enter Commonweath Stadium. In order to maintain consistency with requirements for tournament team and staff participation, full vaccination (two doses) will be required. In addition, Rugby Canada are asking fans to ensure they are symptom-free and have had no close contacts with a positive COVID-19 case.

Proof of full vaccination must be in the form of documentation issued by the public health authority that administered the vaccine (for example: Alberta Health COVID-19 vaccine card; MyAlbertaHealth Vaccination Record, a government-issued vaccination record or receipt from another Canadian province or territory; a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued vaccination card; or record of vaccination from the healthcare provider that administered the vaccines). The documentation can be displayed either on a mobile device or through printed documentation.

In addition, to further protect the health of the Edmonton community and all associated with the event, and to ensure safety is maintained as our top priority, other measures being taken include:

· Full vaccination (two doses) for all participating athletes and team staff

· Non-commercial charter flight transport of teams and staff from previous event in Vancouver to Edmonton

· Opening of the full lower bowl of Commonwealth Stadium to allow space for fans if desired

· Masks are required to be worn in all areas of Commonwealth Stadium except when seated in your seats

There are also additional health and safety requirements being implemented at Commonwealth Stadium which can be reviewed here.

As the above represents a change in policy from when tickets were put on-sale, refunds will be offered for those fans that do not meet updated entry requirements. If requesting a refund, please email and include your name, email address and account number. Due to a busy event schedule and heavy volume, we thank you in advance for your patience.

The HSBC Canada Sevens Edmonton will kickoff Saturday, September 25 – the full schedule, based on the results of the HSBC Canada Sevens Vancouver, is now available here. The tournament will be streamed in full on, with select matches and highlights on CBC TV.
